Behavioral retraining

Behavioral retraining

We cannot pretend, if we want to progress in the objective, to act on certain behaviors or exercises in isolation.

Behavioral psychology should be approached in its totality. We cannot pretend, if we want to progress in the objective, to act on certain behaviors or exercises in isolation.

When my services have been required to redirect some specific behavior of the dog, my question has always been the same: In everything else you are working well?

In order to progress, whatever the discipline or subject, it is essential to follow an educational order and consolidate the acquired knowledge. Similarly, it would be as if a piano student wanted to improve the phrasing and dynamics in the interpretation of a piece of music without being clear about the tempo, the pulse of the piece.

We can only focus on correcting an aspect of a dog's behavior if it has previously had a basic education and its handler/owner can demonstrate consistency in these exercises. If this is not the case, we should, together with the owner, elaborate an educational plan.
